Industrial Scientific T40 II Rattler Single-Gas Monitor
The Industrial Scientific T40 II Rattler is a compact and rugged portable single-gas monitor designed for continuous personal protection in industrial and hazardous environments. Available for carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) or oxygen (O₂), the T40 II combines straightforward operation with fast sensor response, replaceable components and a two-year battery runtime.
With a T90 response time of 10 seconds or less, IP66/IP68 ingress protection and a weight of only 85 g, the T40 II is particularly well suited to workers requiring a simple personal gas detector that can be worn throughout the working day.

Fast Personal Gas Detection
The T40 II Rattler is designed around rapid warning of hazardous gas conditions. Its electrochemical sensors provide a T90 response time of 10 seconds or less, allowing changes in gas concentration to be detected quickly.
The instrument provides audible, visual and vibrating alarms to alert the wearer when configured gas limits are exceeded. High and low alarm settings can be configured to suit site requirements, with TWA and STEL functions available for occupational exposure monitoring.
Available Gas Sensors
The T40 II Rattler is configured for one target gas. Multiple measuring ranges are available for CO and H₂S applications.
| Gas | Measuring Range | Resolution | T90 Response |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carbon Monoxide (CO) | 0–1,000 ppm | 1 ppm | ≤10 seconds |
| Carbon Monoxide (CO) | 0–2,000 ppm | 1 ppm | ≤10 seconds |
| Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) | 0–100 ppm | 0.1 ppm | ≤10 seconds |
| Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) | 0–200 ppm | 0.1 ppm | ≤10 seconds |
| Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) | 0–500 ppm | 0.1 ppm | ≤10 seconds |
| Oxygen (O₂) | 0–30% vol. | 0.1% vol. | ≤10 seconds |
Rugged and Lightweight
At only 85 g, the T40 II is designed to be worn comfortably as a personal monitor throughout a shift. Its polycarbonate housing incorporates a protective rubber overmould to provide additional protection in demanding industrial environments.
An IP66/IP68 ingress protection rating provides resistance to dust and water, while the specified operating temperature range of −40 °C to 50 °C allows the monitor to be used across a wide range of environmental conditions.
Applications
The T40 II Rattler is suitable for continuous personal monitoring where a known CO, H₂S or oxygen hazard is present, including:
- – Water and wastewater treatment
- – Mining and mineral processing
- – Industrial maintenance
- – Utilities and infrastructure
- – Manufacturing and processing
- – Oil, gas and petrochemical operations
- – Confined-space work
- – Tank and vessel operations
- – Contractor safety programs
- – General industrial personal gas monitoring
T-Dock™ – Built for Teams and Gas Monitor Fleets
For organisations managing multiple personal gas monitors, the optional Industrial Scientific T-Dock™ provides a practical way to prepare and maintain T40 II Rattler monitors as a fleet rather than servicing each instrument individually.
A single T-Dock can accommodate up to eight T40 II Rattler monitors simultaneously, making it particularly well suited to workgroups, contractor teams and sites where multiple monitors need to be issued at the beginning of each shift.
- – Dock up to 8 T40 II Rattler monitors simultaneously
- – Automates routine bump testing and calibration
- – Approximately 15-second bump testing
- – Helps standardise routine gas monitor maintenance across a fleet
- – Reduces the time required to prepare multiple instruments for use
- – Provides instrument data handling and maintenance records
- – Ideal for workgroups, contractors, shutdown crews and larger instrument fleets
The combination of a T-Dock and multiple T40 II monitors provides a particularly straightforward solution for organisations that need to equip an entire team with dedicated CO, H₂S or O₂ personal monitors while keeping routine bump testing and calibration manageable.
