Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid Six-Gas Monitor

The Industrial Scientific MX6 iBrid is a highly configurable portable gas monitor designed for complex industrial gas detection, confined-space sampling and applications requiring specialist sensors. Five sensor positions allow the MX6 iBrid to monitor up to six gases simultaneously, with more than 24 available sensor options and hundreds of possible configurations.

In addition to conventional LEL, O₂, CO and H₂S monitoring, the MX6 iBrid can be configured for gases including NH₃, Cl₂, ClO₂, HCN, HCl, NO, NO₂, SO₂, PH₃, CO₂ and hydrogen. PID sensors for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and infrared sensors for hydrocarbons, methane and carbon dioxide make the MX6 particularly suitable for applications that cannot be addressed by a conventional four-gas monitor.

Advanced Multi-Gas Detection

The MX6 iBrid is designed for applications where a conventional four or five-gas configuration does not provide sufficient flexibility. Five sensor positions accept a broad range of interchangeable sensor technologies, while combination sensors allow the instrument to detect as many as six gases simultaneously.

This allows the MX6 to be configured around the actual hazards present at a site rather than restricting users to a standard LEL/O₂/CO/H₂S configuration. Specialist toxic gases, VOCs, carbon dioxide and infrared combustible-gas measurement can all be incorporated depending on the application.

The result is a particularly useful platform for technical gas detection, confined-space permitting, industrial hygiene, emergency response and sites where several unusual atmospheric hazards may be present.

Available Gas Sensors

The MX6 iBrid supports one of the broadest sensor selections in the Industrial Scientific portable range. Available sensor options include:

Available combinations depend on sensor position, compatibility and instrument configuration. Not all sensors can be installed together. Contact Imbros to configure the MX6 iBrid for the gases and measuring ranges required by your application.

PID Monitoring for Volatile Organic Compounds

The MX6 iBrid can be fitted with a photoionisation detector (PID) for monitoring volatile organic compounds. This makes the MX6 suitable for applications involving solvents, fuels and other VOC hazards that cannot be measured using conventional electrochemical or combustible-gas sensors.

Industrial Scientific provides compound-specific PID response factors to assist with interpreting readings for different VOCs. The appropriate target compound, measuring range and response factor should be considered when configuring the monitor for a specific application.

Infrared Gas Detection

Infrared sensor options extend the MX6 iBrid beyond conventional catalytic-bead combustible-gas detection. Configurations are available for methane, hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide.

Infrared combustible-gas sensors are particularly useful where measurement is required in oxygen-deficient atmospheres. Unlike a catalytic-bead LEL sensor, an infrared sensor does not require oxygen to detect combustible gas.

Infrared combustible-gas sensors do not respond to hydrogen, so sensor technology should always be selected according to the gases expected in the application.

Integral Pump for Remote Sampling

The MX6 iBrid can be configured with an integral motorised sampling pump for confined-space entry, pre-entry testing and remote atmosphere sampling.

Industrial Scientific rates the pumped MX6 iBrid for continuous sample draw through up to 30.5 metres of 3.2 mm internal-diameter sample tubing. The pump provides approximately 0.5 L/min flow up to its specified vacuum limit.

This makes the MX6 particularly suitable for tanks, pits, vessels, shafts and other applications where the atmosphere needs to be assessed from a safe distance before personnel enter the area.

Applications

The MX6 iBrid is particularly suited to complex or specialist gas detection applications including:

  • – Confined-space entry and permitting
  • – Industrial hygiene investigations
  • – VOC monitoring
  • – Chemical processing and manufacturing
  • – Oil, gas and petrochemical operations
  • – Mining and mineral processing
  • – Emergency and hazardous-material response
  • – Utilities and infrastructure
  • – Water and wastewater treatment
  • – Steel and metal processing
  • – Tank and vessel inspection
  • – Specialist multi-gas monitoring

Overview

The MX6 iBrid is Industrial Scientific’s most configurable portable multi-gas platform. Five sensor positions can accommodate more than 24 sensor options and allow the instrument to detect up to six gases simultaneously.

Electrochemical sensors provide monitoring for oxygen and a broad range of toxic gases, while catalytic-bead, infrared and PID technologies extend the platform to combustible gases, hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide and volatile organic compounds.

An optional integral sampling pump allows the MX6 to be used for confined-space and remote atmosphere sampling. Pumped instruments can draw samples through up to 30.5 metres of suitable sample tubing.

A full-colour graphic LCD provides gas readings and instrument information, while configurable instrument settings allow the MX6 to be adapted to different applications and operating procedures.

Calibration, Docking & Accessories

The MX6 iBrid can be manually bump tested and calibrated using calibration gas and regulators appropriate to the installed sensor configuration.

For instrument fleets, the MX6 is compatible with the Industrial Scientific DSX Docking Station, which can automate routine functions including bump testing, calibration, charging and instrument data handling.

Pumped MX6 configurations can be combined with suitable sample tubing, probes, filters and other sampling accessories for confined-space and remote atmosphere testing.

Because MX6 configurations can incorporate specialist toxic, PID and infrared sensors, calibration requirements can vary considerably between instruments. Contact Imbros for assistance selecting appropriate calibration gas, regulators, sampling equipment and accessories for your configuration.

Guaranteed for Life™ Warranty

The MX6 iBrid instrument is covered by Industrial Scientific’s Guaranteed for Life™ warranty for as long as the instrument remains supported by Industrial Scientific Corporation. Sensors, batteries and other consumable components are subject to their applicable manufacturer warranty periods and conditions.

Configure Your MX6 iBrid

With more than 24 sensor options and hundreds of possible combinations, the MX6 iBrid should be configured around the specific hazards present in the application rather than selected from a generic configuration list.

When specifying an MX6, important considerations include the target gases, required measuring ranges, expected concentrations, need for PID or infrared measurement, diffusion or pumped sampling, required sampling distance and operating environment.

Contact Imbros with your application and the gases you need to monitor. We can assist with configuring the appropriate MX6 iBrid together with compatible calibration gas, regulators, sampling equipment, batteries, chargers and docking accessories.
